Empallo has welcomed Dana Weisshaar MD, FACC as its Medical Director. Dr. Weisshaar's dedication to improving cardiac care through innovation, research, and clinical practice is inspiring. In every interaction, Dr. Weisshaar stands out as friendly, witty, and genuine, but don’t let her humility fool you; her accomplishments are impressive:
Clinical Leader: Served as an advanced heart failure and transplant cardiologist at Kaiser Permanente Northern California for nearly 24 years, culminating in a clinical professorship in the KP Institute of Medical Educators.
Leadership at Kaiser Permanente: 17 years as Chief & Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Service and Local Research Chair, 10 years as Chair of National Thoracic Organ Transplant Services, 7 years as Medical Director of Transplant Services for Northern California, Northwest and Washington Regions, 15 years on the Cardiovascular Quality Committee, 16 years on the Med Exec committee for KP Santa Clara, and 8 years on the Regional Amyloid Workgroup.
Researcher: Participated in more than 25 clinical trials in heart failure, heart transplant, and COVID-19, and over 20 peer-reviewed publications.
Leadership in the American Heart Association: Served on the Silicon Valley AHA Board of Directors and National Outpatient Quality Committee.
Volunteer Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford: Trained Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Fellows as part of a joint KP/Stanford fellowship program.
Volunteer: Served on a disaster relief team in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan and as a medical camp volunteer in Nepal.
Award Recipient: Received awards for teaching, community service, and patient satisfaction.
